Hey, thanks for the shout out, Drags Spatch and Elwing! Glad to hear you found my site, gnahrf! And welcome to the board, by the way. You too, Timelady!

Phew! That's what happens when you let a thread get too long without replying to it.

As someone who runs an entire website devoted to Nightcrawler and slash, I still couldn't exactly explain what's appealing about it. For me, I think slash's most attractive element is the power dynamics, which are much more fluid and unpredictable than in straight erotica (usually). For instance, I've archived one heterosexual romance story on my site (it doesn't actually have sex in it) that I really like because the girl Kurt is paired up with is a more dominant personality than he is, so there's none of that tiresome virile guy / shrinking violet girl stuff that you usually get in het romance. Then there's slash that I don't like, because the characters are pigeon holed into the stereotyped behavior of one gender or the other.

I'm sure there's way more to it, but that's one idea for you.

Oh, and Timelady, don't worry. The author of "Cowboy Hats and Blue Tails" has no intention of ending the series any time soon, and last I heard was furiously working on the next installment.
